Bohol belongs to the Visayas which is the name of a group of islands in the heart of the Philippines. With an area of 4.117 km² and a coastline of 261 km Bohol is the 10th biggest island of the Philippines. Bohol Island is surrounded by 70 smaller islands. The biggest ones of these surrounding islands are Panglao opposite Tagbilaran City and Lapining in the northeast.
It is easy to spot Camiguin and its volcano from the south coast of Bohol. Camiguin which is 45 km away from Bohol belongs to the island of Mindanao.
One of Bohol`s attractions are definitely the Chocolate Hills, a bizarre area of 1268 grassy limestone humps which are between 40 to 120 m high.
But Bohol has much more to offer: Beautiful rice terraces, a tropical rainforest and wonderful lagoons with waterfalls in the midst of a jungle.
You also have to visit the tarsiers which is not only one of the world`s smallest primates and the oldest surviving member of the primate group, it is also an endangered species.
Moreover, Bohol is widely known for its wonderful dive sites. In particular, Panglao, Balicasag and Cabilao offer a lively and colorful underwater world. |
